The 2017 Naked range gets a new flagship in the form of the Kawasaki Z1000 R Edition. Equipped with braking and suspension components of the highest order, the R Edition has an evocative, menacing Metallic Spark Black and Metallic Graphite Gray colour scheme that is underpinned by a special graphic package complete with yellowgreen accents, seat material embossed with the Z logo and further individual touches adding to an incredible visual appearance.
A closer inspection shows the upgraded componentry in the form of a Brembo M50 Brake set up (the same as fitted on the Ninja H2) matched to stainless steel braided lines. The rear brake set up gets a new rear disc to complement the Brembo front end too.
Suspension upgrade comes in the famous yellow and gold of Ohlins. The high grade rear shock, complete with remote pre load adjuster, combined with revised front fork settings and a modified rear suspension linkage ratio makes the handling of the Z1000 R Edition more refined and responsive.
In terms of electronics, revised ECU settings account for smoother power delivery while a digital gear position indicator is augmented by an adjustable shift-up light which illuminates the rev counter display as the desired ratio change speed is achieved.
Along with a 5-way adjustable lever matched to the ASS Slip Assist clutch, new and improved rear view mirrors, new Z pattern seat and the R logo tank pad, it’s fair to say Kawasaki have “Refined” the Raw…
