The experienced Northern Irish rider has won at both the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT. His father Robert is currently the most successful rider ever at ‘The Triangle’ with 15 NW200 victories.
Dunlop will be racing his MSS Performance prepared Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superstock machine at this, the biggest event on the Northern Irish sporting calendar, which attracts over 150,000 visitors from all over the world. The 8.9 mile circuit links the towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine, which due to its flowing high-speed nature, riders reach speeds in excess of 200mph.
William and the MSS squad have prepared for the Roads season with outings at Tandragee and Cookstown races, plus winter testing with tyre company Metzeler in Spain over the ‘off season’.
The Superstock specification Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is a potent machine which MSS Performance have had much success with over the years in the British Superbike Championship. The bike is closely related to its road-going cousin, with treaded race tyres and many standard chassis parts part of the regulations. The Superstock class races on Thursday and Saturday at the event.
William will be riding the Superstock Kawasaki at the Isle of Man TT, North West 200 and the Ulster GP along with Irish National road races. The TT winner will also be campaigning in selected National Superstock races at the MCE British Superbike Championship to work on his race pace.
William Dunlop commented “Of course it’s good to be at my home race and I’m looking forward to riding the MSS Kawasaki flat out. Ideally we need some good dry tracktime to maximise the set-up but I’m confident we’ll be near the front come race day.”
MSS Performance Owner Nick Morgan added, “After some successful testing and Irish road races we’re really excited to get going at the North West 200. It’s an amazing event and will obviously also be a good indicator for the TT.
It’s always a pleasure working with William and he is extremely knowledgeable about the ‘Triangle’ course, so we will be working with him through practice to get the bike set-up for those long fast straights and super tight roundabouts which is unique to this circuit. We’ve had good support from the organisers here and the service supplied by Metzeler tyres is second to none.”
